On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 5:57 a.m. a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and vehicle occurred on Burlington Pike (KY 18) between Tosha Drive and Ethan Drive in Burlington, Kentucky causing the pedestrian to be sent to the hospital with life threatening injuries. 

A 2006 Chevy Cobalt, operated by Dean Mays, 36, of Grayson, Kentucky, was traveling westbound on Burlington Pike between Tosha Drive and Ethan Drive.  Mays vehicle then struck a pedestrian, Jason Niehoff, 31, of Crescent Springs, Kentucky, who was walking in the roadway.   

Burlington Fire/EMS upon arrival determined the injuries sustained were life threatening, and Niehoff was transported to University Hospital in Cincinnati, OH by AirCare medical helicopter.  Mays was not injured in the collision. 

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation.  Speed and impairment are not believed to be a factor at this time on behalf of Mays.  No charges have been filed at this time, and Mays is cooperating with the investigation.  Niehoff’s next of kin have been notified.  The roadway and intersection remained closed during the investigation however has since reopened to traffic at approximately 7:32 a.m.

Updated information - Sadly, Jason Niehoff succumbed to his injuries and passed away on May 2, 2018 at 8:33 p.m.
