When do I need a building permit?
What is exempt from a building permit?
One-story detached accessory structures used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, provided the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet
Fences not over 7 feet high
Oil Derricks
Retaining Walls that are less than 4 feet in height measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall, unless supporting a surcharge
Water tanks supported directly upon grade if the capacity does not exceed 5,000 gallons and the ratio of height to diameter or width does not exceed 2 to 1
Sidewalks and Driveways not more than 30 inches above adjacent grade, and not over any basement or story below and not part of an accessible route
Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, counter tops and similar finish work
Prefabricated swimming pools accessory to a Group R-3 occupancy that are less than 24 inches deep, do not exceed 5,000 gallons and are installed entirely above ground
Temporary motion picture, television and theater stage sets and scenery
Shade cloth structures constructed for nursery or agricultural purposes, not including service systems
Swings and other playground equipment accessory to detached one and two family dwellings
Window awnings supported by an exterior wall that do not project more than 54 inches from the exterior wall and do not require additional support of Group R-3 and U occupancies
Nonfixed and movable fixtures, cases, racks, counters and partitions not over 5 feet 9 inches in height
How to Print your approved permit
Make sure you to to overview, and you will see a "Print Permit" button on your right. Before you click the button make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off.
How do I retrieve my stamped approved plans?
When you are in your permit record go to the left and click "Permit Information". From there click on attachments & the approved plans will be on top. Click on the (3 dots) under action and select download to save and/or print your plans.
Where do I go to see plan review notes for "Revision Required"?
If you receive an email from Oracle stating that a revision is required, you will sign into your account and go into your permit record. Once inside the record click on "Permit Information" and then click on "Plan Review". Once you are in plan review, go to far right and click on the less (>) and that will take you to your revision comments by the reviewer.
If notes are not found there, try and go to attachments to see if a plan review letter or marked up plans were uploaded there.
How do I upload revisions?
To upload revisions, go back into your permit record and click on "Permit Information" and from there click on the attachments. Click the plus (+) symbol and upload your revision from your computer drive.
How do I make a payment?
Go into your permit record & on the left towards the bottom click on "Fees & Payments" and then click on the pay button. We accept Visa & Mastercard only and any other forms of payment will need to be mailed to our office or hand delivered.
How do I know what Inspections are required?
You can either go to our main county webpage under "Building Department" and click on the required Residential or Commercial Inspections or you can go into your permit record, click on inspections on the left and you will see your required pending inspections.
Otherwise, you can contact the front office at 859-334-2218.
How do I know if I passed or failed an inspection?
You should receive an email from Oracle stating if your inspection passed or failed. If your inspection was failed, go into your permit record, click on Inspections, then click on the 3 dots, click on view details & then click on comments.
How do I get my Certificate of Occupancy?
To find your Certificate of Occupancy, they will be placed in the attachments under "Permit Information"
Typically we only generate CO's for new builds but can email one over by request.
Can I schedule my inspections online?
NO! We are not using the online scheduling system currently. All inspections need to be called in at least 24 hours ahead through the front desk at 859-334-2218 (Option1).
What if I don't know which permit to apply for?
If you are not aware of which permit to apply for, please contact our office at 859-334-2218 (Option 2) or at bcbd@boonecountyky.org before applying.
Applying for the wrong permit, will result the permit being withdrawn.
How do I keep track of the record of completion?
On the far left in your permit record click on "Additional Information" and select "Status History".
Who all has access to my building permit?
Only the applicant of the permit will have access to printing the permit, the plans and any plan review/inspection notes. The public will have limited access to the applicant's information, however the applicant can add a contact name/email of someone they want to have access to their permit. Once that contact is listed, they will also have to register with Oracle and they will have complete access to that applicants permit.
Can't get into my account or I am not seeing all information
If you are having problems with seeing things on your Oracle account, log out of Oracle and going into your browsing history and clear out your cache before signing back in.
If you are not able to get into your account because you can't remember your password, just click on "Forgot Password". Oracle will send you an email (check spam/junk folder as well) and it might take a few minutes to receive that email.
