On Thursday, February 28, 2008 at approximately 11:00 a.m. the Executive Chef of Turfway Park was arrested for embezzling over $70,000 of Park money and gambling it away.
Kevin Kangas, 38 of Florence, Kentucky is charged with Theft by unlawful taking, a Class D felony. Kangas approached Turfway Park officials Thursday morning and admitted he took money from petty cash and deposits over the past five (5) weeks.
Kangas said each time he took money it was in an effort to win and then repay what he had previously taken and lost. He is being held in the Boone County Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bond.
