On Monday, February 25, 2008 at approximately 8:25 p.m. a man attempted to rob the Hollywood Liquor Store located at 310 Mount Zion Road in Florence, Kentucky using a stick or ball bat as a weapon. Investigators have obtained surveillance video of the incident and are hoping the public can provide leads to the man’s identity.
Originally the perpetrator walked into the store and asked for a pack of Marlboro cigarettes. He then said he wouldn’t buy from the employee, a Middle Easterner, and walked back out of the store. The clerk, Raid El Hayek, observed him go to a white Pontiac Grand Am with a woman in the passenger seat and retrieve a white stick or ball bat and then walk back into the store where he demanded all the cash in the cash register.
The El Hayek made no attempt to open the register and the man left the store. Mr. El Hayek followed the man out into the parking lot where he (perpetrator) held up his wallet stating he was a police officer before getting in the car and driving off. El Hayek reported a partial Kentucky license plate of “040”.
El Hayek described the bandit as a white man, approximately 25 years old with dark hair wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt and a plaid jacket. Sheriff’s investigators are urging anyone with information as to the identity of the man to call Crime Stoppers at 513.352.3040 or the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at 859.334.2175.
