On Thursday, August 14, 2008 at approximately 10:50 a.m. a two car collision in the 2400 block of KY–18 (Burlington Pike) in Burlington, Kentucky sent all three occupants to area hospitals, two via Air Care.
Joan Walters (driver), 64 of Newport, Kentucky and Glenda Dice (passenger), 38 of Covington, Kentucky were in a Chevrolet Lumina making a left turn (to go west) onto KY–18 from the Dollar General Store when they were struck broadside by Brian Samad, 19 of Burlington, Kentucky driving a Hyundai Tiburon eastbound on KY18. The impact caused the Lumina flip onto its top.
Samad, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported by ground to Saint Luke Hosptial (West) in Florence, Kentucky. Walters and Dice were both flown to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Walters was wearing a seatbelt and had to be extricated. Dice was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected as the car flipped. Their medical conditions are unknown.
