On Tuesday, March 04, 2008 at approximately 4:30 a.m. a single vehicle, overturned, tractor trailer accident on U.S.–42 at the Boone and Gallatin Counties line caused the two lane highway to be shut down while crews cleared the scene.
Scott Young, 44 of Perryopolis, Pennsylvania was driving a 1999 Kenworth tractor trailer, owned by Double R Trucking out of Yukon, Oklahoma, west on U.S.–42 when he lost control of the vehicle and it flipped, blocking the road. Young was not injured. The chains securing the 43,000 pound load of steel to the trailer had to be cut and the rig pulled away from the cargo. A crane is en route to pick up the steel.
First responders were able to open the highway for single lane usage – directing traffic around the steel – by 7:30 a.m. As of this writing, crews are still anticipating a two hour delay in opening both lanes for normal flow.
