On Sunday, June 29, 2008 at approximately 4:15 p.m. a traffic stop on southbound I–75 at the 177 mile marker rest area yielded a cache of drugs and the arrests of a London, Kentucky couple.
Max Burd, 27 and Deborah Burd, 25 (in–laws) both of London, Kentucky were stopped leaving the rest area because Deputy Dan Delaney suspected Deborah had an active warrant out of Whitley County, Kentucky for non–payment of traffic fines. A search of the vehicle incident to the arrest revealed 6 pounds of processed marijuana and 1,251 assorted pills, some of which were Methadone, Loritab, and Endocet.
Both Burds were charged with Trafficking marijuana (5lb or more), a Class C felony, Trafficking in controlled substance 1st degree, a Class C felony, and Trafficking in controlled substance 2nd degree, a Class D felony. Additionally, Deborah was lodged for the Whitley County warrant. Each posted a $5,000 cash bond on Monday, June 30, 2008.
