On Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at approximately 3:55 p.m. a two vehicle traffic collision on U.S.–42 at Miller Owens Road in Verona, Kentucky claimed the lives of the three (3) occupants in one of the vehicles and sent the other driver to the hospital with minor injuries.
Tamara Roberts, 45 of Warsaw, Kentucky was driving her 2002 Ford F–150 pickup truck south on U.S.–42 when she lost control of the vehicle and began to slide sideways into the path of an oncoming (northbound) 2007 Workhorse FedEx delivery van driven by Gary Hutchinson, 55 of Dry Ridge, Kentucky. The two vehicles collided at a perpendicular angle (T–bone) killing the two passengers in the pickup truck, both seated on the passenger (impact) side. Dillon Roberts, 11 (front seat) and Dallas Wallace, 70 (rear seat) were pronounced dead at the scene. Tamara Roberts died en route to the hospital. None of them were wearing seat belts. Hutchinson was taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital (Florence) for reported minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.
The collision is being investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Unit who had the road closed until 7:40 p.m. They are only willing to say, at this stage in the investigation, the wet, slippery roadway was a contributing factor.
