On Sunday, October 18, 2009 at approximately 11:10 a single vehicle accident at the 5.1 mile marker on eastbound I–275 caused the lone occupant to be transported to the hospital with non life–threatening injuries.
William Bolton, 67 of Independence, Kentucky was driving a Ford F–350 pickup truck when it went off the right side of the road, down an embankment, and crashed into a tree. Bolton, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio with reported non life–threatening injuries. Investigators have yet to determine why Bolton lost control of the truck.
While working that accident, deputies were alerted to another one behind them on the west bound side at approximately 11:40. Deputies and medics rushed to the area of the 4.6 where they discovered the overturned Mazda Tribute SUV with both occupants who had been ejected. The 22 year old female driver (name withheld) was pronounced at the scene. The 25 year old man (name withheld) who was a passenger was pronounced en route to the hospital.
Initial indicators are as the SUV approached the scene of the original accident, the driver was distracted and failed to recognize that traffic ahead of her was slowing. After she did, she steered hard to the right and then back left causing the vehicle to roll. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident. Names are withheld pending notification.
Updated information – The deceased are Brittany Holtzman, 22 of Independence, Kentucky and Sam Roberts, 25 of Bennington, Indiana. Notifications have been made.
