July 24, 2009
On Thursday, July 23, 2009 at approximately 4:00 p.m. a two vehicle collision on I–275 at the 6.4 mile marker sent one of the drivers to the hospital with reported life–threatening injuries.
Lawrence Sandmann, 75 of the 2400 block of Walnutview Court in Cincinnati, Ohio was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla westbound when he lost control and faded to the right into the guard rail. He then came off the rail and ran into the rear of a tractor trailer and then back into the guard rail where the car came to rest. Mr. Sandmann was taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital (Florence) where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The tractor trailer continued on but was later stopped by Dearborn County, Indiana for identification. The driver of the truck is John Parker, 55 of Dieterich, Illinois. Parker was uninjured. The rig is owned by BT Trucking out of Broadview, Illinois.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. Preliminary indications are that the driver of the Corolla experienced a medical episode. Westbound traffic was restricted to one lane for approximately one hour.
