Boone County Sheriff investigators learned this week the burned remains located in Morgan County Indiana on March 13, 2009 have been positively identified as those of Walter Sartory, the 73 year old, Hebron, Kentucky man reported missing by out–of–state friends in late February.
Doctor Mark Burnstein, a Forensic Dentist from the University of Louisville Dental School made the identification comparing the evidence collected to previously taken dental x–rays when Sartory was alive. The aforementioned evidence consists of material collected at the burn sites by Doctors Krista Latham and Stephen Nawrocki, Forensic Anthropologists with the University of Indianopolis along with wet–sifted remains provided to Doctor Emily Craig, Forensic Anthropologist with the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office.
Sheriff Michael A. Helmig commented, “While this report confirms what we felt in our hearts after locating the burn sites in Indiana, we will leave no stone unturned in our investigation. Anyone who had a part in this senseless act of greed will be brought to justice.”
