On Thursday, March 19, 2009 at approximately 7:00 p.m. a Burlington, Kentucky man was arrested for the 2005 sexual molestation of a child. Yesterday, March 23rd, additional charges were levied after the investigator located another out–of–state victim who was a child at the time.
Stephen Washington, 41 of the 6500 block of Rosetta Drive in Burlington is charged with 2 counts of Rape 2nd degree (Class C felony), 2 counts of Use of a minor in a sexual performance (Class B felony), 4 counts of Sodomy 2nd degree (Class C felony), and 2 counts of Unlawful transaction with a minor 1st degree (Class B felony). Washington is lodged in the Boone County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
Both victims in this case were 12 year old childhood friends at the time of the offense in 2005 and now both live out–of–state. Washington was involved with one of the girl’s mother.
This is the second such case we’ve made an arrest on in a one week period; the first one was a 16 year old rape. Often times a child will not report it at the time for fear of getting the adult in trouble but will come forward later in life. While the cases are inherently more difficult to investigate due in part to the lack of physical evidence available, Sheriff Helmig sees to it that each one is examined thoroughly.
