January 26, 2009
On Monday, January 26, 2009 at approximately 11:10 a.m. a Memphis, Tennessee man was arrested on three warrants, one as old as 38 years dating back to 1971, when he was identified after a traffic stop in Verona, Kentucky.
Deputy Greg Faulkner of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Interdiction Traffic Enforcement (C.I.T.E.) Unit was stationary just south of Verona on I–71 when a blue Buick Park Avenue passed him. Immediately the driver switched lanes, cutting off a tractor trailer, and then exited at Verona (72mm). Faulkner followed the Buick into the BP station to stop him for failing to use his turn signal where he learned the driver had no drivers license and was wanted out of Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
Faulkner arrested Sammie Pickens, 59 of Memphis, Tennessee for a January 1971 Housebreaking & Larceny charge, a March 1972 Carrying a concealed deadly weapon charge, and a 1990 Failure to appear charge relating back to the 1971 Housebreaking. Pickens is being held in the Boone County Detention Center awaiting extradition from Ohio.
