Division of Contract Services, Gary Tucker Contract Services Supervisor

Photograph of Gary TuckerWe deal with contractors that are hired to do work for the county. We help in writing bid specs, working with engineers and consultants on projects that are awarded to contractors by the Fiscal Court. We handle public relations between contractors, ourselves and the people the work may be affecting. We oversee all aspects of the job such as ensuring the work is being performed properly, in a timely manner, safely, and within budget.

Since I've been supervisor, I have worked toward preventive maintenance and researching new products and ideas to improve our roads. I also look at the problems that reoccur and seek ways to solve them. We try to share ideas and information with all departments at Public Works and with other municipalities.

Contracting Public Projects

Some ask why Boone County hires outside companies when we have a Public Works Department. There are three reasons why we do this:

The increase in construction and the needs of the public coupled with the amount of new streets to maintain are more than our department can handle sometimes.

Some jobs are too dangerous for Public Works to undertake. Examples include: installing pipe fourteen feet underground and taking down trees around electrical lines.

Other jobs are too ambitious and require special equipment. These jobs include building bridges, paving roads, striping roads and roadside slips.

Our Goals

Provide the best service to the county by researching and always improving services. Spend taxpayers' dollars wisely. Treat all projects as though they were on my street or yard and give the public the quality work and answers I would expect.
