Created primarily by community preservation volunteers, the Boone County Preservation Plan is directed and guided by the following proposed Mission Statement: |
| |
MISSION STATEMENT |
"Boone County and its citizens seek to promote, identify, protect and preserve the county’s historic and prehistoric resources in order to enhance the quality of life and the economic well-being of current and future generations." |
| |
The Mission Statement serves as a framework for a series of Goals and Objectives that define historic preservation planning in Boone County. |
In late 1996, the Review Board began to work on a Preservation Plan for Boone County. This Plan was designed to clarify the direction of historic preservation in Boone County and provide guidelines by which the Historic Preservation Review Board could make recommendations to the Planning Commission and the four legislative units on historic preservation issues. |
The development of a countywide preservation plan is the culmination of an effort that began with a Comprehensive Architectural Survey. From 1993 to 1996 buildings fifty years old or older, throughout the county, were documented as part of an inventory of historic resources in Boone County and added to the initial work done by the Kentucky Heritage Council in 1977. The newly completed inventory served as a foundation for the Boone County Preservation Plan. |
The Preservation Plan was prepared by current and former members of the Review Board, with the assistance of a professional preservation consultant, and the input of a local Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee is made up of representatives from the Businessmen’s Association, the Farm Bureau, the Home Builders Association, and the League of Kentucky Property Owners. |
