BOONE COUNTY SMILES DENTAL PROGRAM

“Miles of Smiles”

Background
Boone County Human Services Department (“Department”), recipient of funding from the Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Department (“District”), provides financial and supportive services to indigent residents of Boone County, KY who are in need of dental services. Local dental providers cooperate with the Department to make services accessible and payment is made directly to the providers for services rendered.

The District has contracted with the Department to provide the following services: client eligibility determination, program control and provider reimbursement. Client eligibility is based on financial need with maximum annual income fixed at 200% of poverty level; however, exceptions will be considered after allowing for extraordinary dental expenses and reviewing the client’s total financial circumstances. In addition, the client must be a resident of Boone County for twelve (12) consecutive months; however, exceptions will be considered based on the client’s living situation.

Fee Schedule
Due to the nature of this Program, a specific fee schedule is not practical; therefore, a general policy regarding payment for services is that the payment to dental providers will not be less than the Medicaid reimbursement rate. The Department is considered the “last payer” after examining all other sources of payment.
