When are tax bills mailed?
Tax bills are normally mailed on October 1st.
How do I receive a discount on my taxes or be penalized if they are paid late?
Customers are eligible for a 2% discount if their bill is paid by November 1st. The base amount of the tax bill, without a discount, is due between November 2nd – December 31st. If a tax bill is paid after December 31st a 5% penalty is assessed to 30 days. If a tax bill is paid after January 31st a 21% penalty is assessed to the bill.
What happens if I don't pay my tax bill by April 15th?
At the close of business on April 15th, all unpaid tax bills are transferred to the Boone County Clerk’s Office. After April 15th, the taxpayer will need to contact the Boone County Clerk’s Office for the amount that is due.
Does the Boone County Sheriff's Office accept credit cards as a form of payment?
We do accept credit cards as a form of payment. However there is an additional third party fee of 2.25% + $.30 or paying with a credit card
Why is my tax bill listed in the previous owner's name?
Tax bills are issued to the listed property owner as January 1st of the tax year. If the previous owner receives the bill, they should forward the bill to the new owner. The Sheriff’s Office does not have access to the new deed transfers. If you purchased property this year, you need to call (859) 334-2175 to obtain a copy of the tax bill for your property.

Where can I get the homestead exemption on my property?
The year you turn 65 years of age is the year you can receive the reduction on your property assessment. The form must be filled out at the PVA Office (Property Valuation Administrator) @ (859) 334-2181.
Can you make partial payments on your tax bill?
No. Full payment is required.
Is there a reduction on your taxes if I am disabled?
If you are 100% disabled, permanently receiving benefits, please contact the PVA Office @ (859) 334-2181 for a reduction on the valuation of your property. This applies if you owned the property on January 1st of the tax year.
