Is the Section 8 program accepting applications?
Yes. All applications must be submitted on line using the link on the left of the page.
How does the Section 8 program work?
- BCAH will make monthly payments directly to the landlord on behalf of the family. The family will pay, directly to the landlord, their portion of the contract rent.
- Once the family has identified a unit, the family and landlord will complete the Request for Tenancy Approval and Lead Based Disclosure Form (obtained at a briefing). Once BCAH receives the documents, an inspection will be scheduled. The lease may begin once the unit has passed inspection.
- Once a copy of the signed lease has been received by BCAH, BCAH will send a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contract to the landlord. The HAP contract will be executed between the landlord and BCAH.
What is the application process for Section 8?
The demand for low income housing in Boone County exceeds available units. The need is great enough that a waiting list has been established. Application may be submitted on line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once the application has been correctly submitted, an email confirmation will be sent to the email address provided by the applicant. Once the applicants name reaches the top of the waiting list, an appointment will be necessary to collect the documents outlined in the email.
