Over 460 incidents of garbage dumps and littered areas were cleaned through the actions of Boone County Solid Waste, Boone County Public Works, Boone County Jail Workcamp and enforcement efforts in 2008.
When incidents occur on Boone County government-owned property, such as road right-of-way, often Boone County Solid Waste examines the refuse. If evidence is found indicating who may have dumped the garbage, Boone County Solid Waste investigates, issues Notices of Violation and seeks legal recourse. In most cases, Boone County resources are used to remove the refuse and the perpetrator is forced to perform community service.
When incidents occur on private property, the procedure is much the same except that the property owner is ultimately responsible for cleaning the violation. However, Boone County Solid Waste works hard to find the perpetrators of illegal garbage dumps and ensure they clean up their messes.
