The Boone County Sheriff’s Department “40 + hour” BASIC TACTICAL SKILLS COURSE will provide entry level skills training for the newly appointed tactical officer. The curriculum is intended to provide the student with a broad range of instruction in basic S.W.A.T. topics. The course will provide lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on scenario based exercises.
This course will require that the student be in ABOVE AVERAGE physical condition due to the wearing of full tactical equipment mixed with fast paced movement exercises. In addition to the normal tactical exercises there will be a 30 minute PHYSICAL FITNESS/TEAM BUILDING portion each morning.

PREREQUISITES:
Students “MUST BE” certified peace officers in “GOOD” standings with their agency and be able to produce agency I.D. on the first morning of class.
Students “MUST” send a written letter stating their assignment from their Chief/Sheriff or SWAT Commander with their registration form.
Students “MUST” pass a Physical Fitness Test the morning of day 1 (one) to continue for their CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION: (The standards include five physical fitness measures. To pass this component of “POPS”, applicants must be able to bench press 64 percent of their body weight, complete 18 sit-ups within one minute, finish a 300-meter run in 65 seconds, perform 20 push-ups and run 1.5 miles within 17 minutes and 12 seconds.)
Students “MUST” produce on the morning of day (1) one signed documentation from their department that they have “PASSED” their departmental qualification courses for both the handgun and long gun.
Students “MUST” pass the GAS exposure exercise to continue for their CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.
Students “MUST” pass any and all written tests and hands on exercises to continue for their CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.
Students “CANNOT” miss more than a total of (4) four hours of instruction to continue for their CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.

EQUIPMENT LIST
Each student will be “REQUIRED” to bring the following:
- “MUST” HAVE LAW ENFORCEMENT I.D.
(Presented the first morning)
- BDU pants or some other type of tactical pants
- BDU shirts or some other type of tactical shirts (long sleeve)
- Boots
- PT Clothing (running shoes, shorts, sweatpants, t-shirts etc…)
- Tactical Gear (helmet, load bearing vest, knee pads, goggles etc…)
- Body Armor
- Pistol Belt with holster and magazine pouches
- Flashlight (small hand held)
- Gloves (fire retardant)
- Gas Mask with carrier
- Wet Weather Gear
- Hydration System
- Range Gear (clear lens glasses and hearing protection)
- Handgun – 3 magazines and 200 rounds of ammunition
- Shoulder Weapon – 3 magazines and 300 rounds of ammunition
(“MUST” have sling and weapon light)
- Pad and Pencil (small enough to be placed in a pocket)
*NO equipment is needed in the classroom the first morning until after the PT test. All students need to be in the classroom by 08:00hrs on 8-25-08 with their Law Enforcement I.D.’s and ready for PT. After the PT test students will have a locker room to change in and time to get their gear from their vehicles.
