HISTORIC BURLINGTON SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS PHASE II CONSTRUCTION TO TAKE PLACE FALL 2007

Boone County, KY August 22, 2007 - Construction will begin on Phase II of sidewalk construction in Historic Burlington this Fall. The schedule for completion is 150 days from start and is expected to be completed before Spring 2008. Local business owners are optimistic that the improvements will encourage people to come out and see what is available by taking a stroll in the historic area.

The new sidewalk will be constructed along Jefferson Street (East Bend Road) from Torrid Street to Featherstone Subdivision. The sidewalk will follow the east side of Jefferson Street from Torrid Street crossing Jefferson at Allens Fork and continuing along the west side to the entrance of Featherstone.

This project has been possible because of the Boone County Fiscal Court's efforts in finding alternative funding sources for county projects. Eighty percent of this project is being funded by a Transportation Enhancement Grant received from the Governor's Office of Local Government, and the remaining twenty percent of funding is a match provided by Boone County. The Burlington Historic Sidewalk Project is an investment in the community that will help connect both present and future generations to Burlington's Historic past.
