BOONE COUNTY´S SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM TO START ON SIDEWALKS AROUND CONNER MIDDLE SCHOOL
Boone County, KY September 18, 2007– Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher announced earlier this month $243,000 in Safe Routes to School Funding for Boone County. This grant along with a T-1 Grant Boone County received for $206,000 will go a long way in helping residents of Boone County. As a result of these grants, the area around the Conner Campus will be receiving new and in some cases improved sidewalks.
The Conner Campus Sidewalk Project in will serve more than 1,300 students who live within two miles of four schools: Goodridge Elementary, Conner Middle School, Conner High School and the Boone County Area Technical Center. This project will enable students to walk or ride bicycles to school without having to venture into traffic.
"This project truly does take the next step toward improving the lives of our children," said Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore. "Not only is this project creating sidewalks for children to safely walk and ride their bicycles to school, but it also will connect neighborhoods."
