Boone County kids have sent a clear message—Please stop littering!
Over 370 elementary students throughout the County participated in this year’s Quit the Littering Coloring Calendar Contest and with outstanding creativity, each illustrated the problem of litter in our communities and what we can do to stop it. Litter is a chronic problem and so we look to the youngest members of our community for their unique insight and fresh perspective on the mess.

Mann Elementary, New Haven Elementary, Ockerman Elementary, Stephens Elementary, Walton-Verona Elementary and Yealey Elementary all participated in the contest, which was open to all elementary schools in Boone County. We want to send a hearty thank you to Superintendent Blavatt, Superintendent Boyle, and all of the teachers who participated. You rule!

For the contest, students were given a choice of prompts and entries from each grade were chosen as winners. Winners will have their artwork featured in a 2007 calendar that will be distributed throughout Boone County. In addition to that, they will be recognized at the Fiscal Court meeting on December 19 and be featured in Boone County publications. Plus, they get award certificates, goodie bags and gift cards.
Since we received a huge amount of imaginative images this year, we have awarded runner—up prizes! Runner-up winners will be given goodie bags and have their artwork featured on posters hung throughout Boone County.
As always, the creativity of Boone County kids is not limited to artistic talent—several submitted catchy slogans. Slogan winners will also be featured in the 2007 calendar and receive the same gifts as Grand Prize Winners.
